Originally from Toronto, Canada, Amy has a Master’s of Teaching (University of Toronto) and a double major Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Theatre and Media Studies. She also holds a specialist degree in Special Education and English Language/Literature.
Throughout Amy’s academic history, she took great advantage of international study opportunities and quickly developed a passion for international cultures and languages. She studied abroad in Sydney (University of New South Wales), France (Alpha B Institut Linguistique), England (Herstmonceux Castle; Oxford University) and Ireland (Trinity College).
For five years, Amy has been a teacher in primary, middle and secondary schools. Her professional teaching experience has primarily been in private international schools, though she has some experience teaching within public school sectors. She has taught in Toronto, Chiang Mai, Milan, London and Barcelona, across subjects of English, Maths, Verbal, and Non-verbal Reasoning. She has experience working with many curricula, including the IB (PYP and MYP) and British (national) curriculum.
Amy is a highly experienced private tutor, having tutored internationally for over 9 years. She has experience working with an international range of students from various cultures and exclusive families. Amy understands the importance of creating a strong and trusting relationship with her tutor families, and greatly values their privacy and confidentiality. Her history tutoring male and female students, between ages of 7-15 focussing primarily on entrance examination support for 7+, 11+ and 13+.
She has experience tutoring students with social and emotional needs, A.D.D./A.D.H.D., and autism. She diagnoses students’ learning styles and ensures teaching is catered to the individual student. Amy identifies her students’ unique interests and preferred study structures so she can ensure the delivery of content is enjoyable and meaningful for each student.
Currently, Amy tutors privately full time. In her spare time, she enjoys making the most of London’s dynamic art scene by exploring exhibits, films, live music and theatre; her greater hobbies include yoga, videography and travel.
IB Experience
Amy has taught at two IB schools, one in Toronto, Canada and one in Milan, Italy. She has experience teaching the PYP curriculum, and developing/teaching the MYP curriculum. Amy's methods to help pupils achieve the IB are to weave Learner Profile Traits throughout tutor sessions, to create habits of critical and global thinking. Further, Amy believes in the advantages of goal-setting to achieve academic success. She creates personalised study programs and collects feedback from students and parents to ensure her students are always on path to accomplishing their goals. She values motivation and encouragement; her techniques include discussions, self-assessments, and fun activities -- all of which relate to real-life, global realities. She ensures students genuinely enjoy their tutoring sessions and that they always feel comfortable to share any confusions, thoughts and opinions. Amy instils confidence in students' academic abilities because she believes a confident mind is a successful mind.
