Tutor profile - Maiuran

Maiuran obtained top A-Levels, before studying Financial Management at university where he obtained a First class degree. During his degree, he worked for a year as a Financial Analyst at General Motors, and loved being able to apply the mathematical formulae learnt in University to real-life scenarios.

Even though he enjoyed linking his degree to Mathematics, he realised his personality did not suit the finance industry. His real passion was in helping others to better themselves, and he wanted to share his love for Mathematics with others. This led him to apply to the prestigious Teach First programme, where he spent two years teaching at a challenging school in London. Maiuran is a specialist in helping students who have a negative attitude to Mathematics. Through his enthusiasm, patience and creativity he was able to drive his students to actually understand Mathematics, instead of just remembering formulas and methods for Mathematical concepts. This ultimately resulted in his students achieving top results in their exams.

Maiuran is currently Head of Mathematics at an outstanding school in West London, and has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. As a teacher, his main goal is to emphasise conceptual understanding of the math topics presented in class and facilitate connections between current lessons and students' previous knowledge. He strives to provide students with a stimulating, challenging, and healthy learning environment that will allow them to become active participants in their learning experience. Maiuran tutors in the Ealing, Hounslow and Harrow areas.

When he isn't tutoring or teaching, Maiuran organises Chess and Sudoku competitions at his local community club. He is also passionate about football, and helps run a football club for students who have learning difficulties.
