How Payments Work

Guaranteed payments

Unlike many tuition companies, we are a business and not an agency. This means that we can (and do) always pay tutors for all work performed.

Minimum rates

We set minimum rates for home and online tuition services. As a result of Owl Tutors having fixed upper margins, this means that there are minimum rates of pay for tutors as well. Our net rates to tutors currently range from £30 to £100 per hour with an average of £55 per hour.

Transparent Margins

Owl Tutors take up to 40% of the value of hourly rates charged to clients for the services of tutors for one to one home and online tuition. Owl Tutors operate transparently when it comes to what we charge and our tutors are always welcome to enquire about pricing on any given job.

What do we do for our 40%

40% may seem like a large chunk of what clients pay for tuition services so we do our best to make sure that you feel that this is fair. We do the following for our 40%:

  1. Find the best clients
  2. Build your profile and brand
  3. Increase your efficiency
  4. Offer training
  5. Generate free resources
  6. Pay you on time

Price bands

New tutors will be placed into a price band, where appropriate. This will place a cap on the maximum rates you can earn as a tutor. This band will be clearly communicated before interview, and can be increased through a simple mechanism which is openly shared with tutors. Price bands are used to stop tutors pricing themselves out of work, and still allow our tutors to attain what we think are market-leading rates.

Payment cycle

Owl Tutors operate a monthly billing cycle which means that you will be paid fees for tuition on or before the 20th of every month for tuition that took place in the previous month. You will be prompted to submit timesheets for each of your clients at the end of every month so that Owl Tutors can collate invoices for our clients. Clients will be billed at the start of the month so that we can pay our tutors on the 20th. If the 20th falls on a weekend or bank holiday, you will be paid on the last business day before the 20th.
