Lionel graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester with an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Physics with Business Studies. He then spent a year working in Business, Administration & Sales before embarking on a PGCE course in Secondary Physical Science at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has been teaching ever since and is a passionate, dedicated, and energetic Physics specialist with over 20 years of experience in UK schools. He likes to make his lessons enjoyable, applies them to the 'real world' and ensures that the delivery of the subject material is clear and easy to understand. He has been a Head of Science for seven years. He has managed a team of ten teachers and two laboratory technicians ensuring schemes of work for different specifications (AQA, Edexcel etc.) at KS3 and KS4 are constantly updated and delivered in the most effective way across the department. As a result, students' examination results were consistently inline in with their targets.
He has also been an Associate Head teacher, helping lead a large comprehensive school, successfully through the Covid-19 pandemic. He ensured full school systems were in place to lower the chances of transmission of the virus. He has also been an Exams Officer and as such, is extremely well organised. He understands the different specifications and courses that exist for all subjects and was responsible for ensuring that students were entered for their exams, examination timetabling, preparing examination rooms, managing invigilators and organising results day. He has also been an Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) in charge of overseeing all educational visit applications both at home and abroad, ensuring the safety of the students. He is a very experienced all-round teacher who still loves to teach his passion - Science.
