Sophie has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
English Literature has the power to transport you into a world of ideas and English Language gives you the power to transport others into yours. Sophie is passionate about enabling students to find this power within themselves. While achieving results is her primary aim, she hopes no student leaves her without having been inspired by language and emboldened by their own use of it. Learning should and can always be an enjoyable, exciting experience.
Sophie has a wealth of experience tutoring students of varying abilities and ages across 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level courses. To date, all of her 11+ and 13+ tutees have been successful in gaining entrance to one of their chosen schools. On a one-to-one and small group basis, she creates bespoke sessions to engage, inspire and challenge her tutees.
As Head of English at a South London secondary school, she has proven success raising English Language and Literature results at all key stages. Both her teaching and department are consistently rated 'Outstanding' by internal and external reviewers. She sits on the Teaching and Learning Committee to share this best practice and is author of two soon-to-be-published GCSE Literature 'Aiming for Grade 9' study guides. As an AQA GCSE examiner, she has specialist knowledge of the new 1-9 requirements. She is also a MCCT, Teach First Ambassador and Mentor, sits on the Board of Trustees for The Big House and is an ex-School Governor.
Sophie qualified to teach English in 2008, and holds a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University.
