Kate has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Whilst working in Year 2 at Wetherby Kensington, I worked with the 7+ candidates in my class and ran the Creative Writing club in preparation for 8+ examinations in the summer term.
With an innate aptitude for working with children, especially nurturing their intrinsic capacities, Kate couples her awareness of pedagogical methods and knowledge of how best to scaffold development with a child-centred approach tailored to each individual. Recognising the multiple forms of intelligence, she is adaptive and creative but sets high expectations, aiming to inspire, motivate and challenge all of the children that she works with.
After graduating from Durham University with a Bachelors in Music and a First in her final recital on the cello, Kate went on to complete her PGCE through the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, obtaining Outstanding in her final portfolio. Teaching in an inner-London primary school in Mitcham, she worked as a teacher in years 1 and 3 and was appointed as music co ordinator in her second year, responsible for implementing music across the school.
Working privately within the home as a live-in teacher, she started her Masters on the Music Pathway of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London. Here, Kate worked on developing a programme to help accelerate the acquisition of the English language through music, inspired by her work and experience in the classroom. Whilst completing this she was employed as a Teaching Assistant at Wetherby Kensington, where she worked closely with boys in year 2 who were preparing for 7+ examinations, taught RE and ran the Creative Writing Club in preparation for the 8+ examinations in year 3.
She is currently employed as Head of Music at a top Pre-Prep school in London.
Kate qualified to teach Primary education in 2014, and holds a PGCE from Institute of Education (Teach First).

Miss Hartley is a great tutor and thanks to her hard work and dedication my child made a lot of progress during the last school year, both in English and Mathematics. She is very kind but knows when to be firm. We highly recommend her!
