Laura's biography:

Laura studied Linguistics and Phonetics at the University of Leeds. She then decided to pursue a career in teaching and earned a place on the prestigious Teach First Leadership Development Programme, a teacher-training scheme for high-achieving graduates. She has received excellent training and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the highly regarded UCL Institute of Education.

Laura is a trained specialist in dyslexia and is currently working at a prep school as a specialist dyslexia teacher. She has extensive knowledge of dyslexia and dyscalculia and is able to provide specialist support to children with specific literacy and numeracy difficulties. Through assessment Laura is able to pin point your child’s particular area of need and create a unique multi-sensory teaching programme to target these needs.

After only a short period of teaching, her teaching was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by an Ofsted inspector. Working in a deprived area of London, Laura has taught a wide range of students at different ages, she is used to teaching children who are behind their expected attainment and has successfully accelerated their progress in a short space of time. Laura’s classes have consistently made excellent progress. Furthermore, she has experience of working with a wide range of children on a 1:1 basis. She has tutored children with English as an additional language and has also had extensive experience working with children on the ASD spectrum.

Laura is a patient and supportive teacher who enjoys promoting high expectations and encouraging inquisitive discovery and creative endeavours in young learners. Laura is able to engage well with children, identifying their specific needs and building on their strengths. She thoroughly understands that no child learns in the same way and will take the time to get to know you and your child to ensure that the learning is tailored to your requirements and their individual needs.

While in the classroom, Laura likes to make her lessons fun and memorable. She often uses art, drama, games and debates to ensure a holistic approach to teaching where children can be active and engaged in their learning. Laura inspires her pupils to be resilient, confident and take ownership of their own learning. She frequently uses open-ended questions to provide a challenging forum that empowers children to use their reasoning skills. Laura will tailor sessions and resources to suit each child’s interests. She will ensure specific outcomes are met and will reflect on what has been learnt so that your child is secure on the session’s outcomes. She will then assess your child’s needs for the next session to move their learning forward.
