11 Plus (English, Maths and Science)
Alex has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Alex is an enthusiastic and dedicated primary school teacher who has worked throughout KS2 since qualifying with a first class degree and 'outstanding' teacher status in 2015. Her ability to build relationships with the students she works with sets her apart from the crowd. She has allowed countless pupils in her care to unlock their full potential by working alongside them to build their confidence whilst at the same time embedding knowledge and extending their academic abilities. Alex has valued experience in teaching Year 6 pupils who are looking to embark on the 11+ exams and is highly skilled in incorporating top tips on tackling these papers in to her everyday teaching.
As a tutor, Alex is able to develop sessions which are highly personalised to the individual child to ensure maximum engagement and enjoyment, for example tailoring a writing project to one of her tutee's love of Lionel Messi, and sending the footballer the student's finished non-chronological report! She is also able to offer follow up tasks to clients who have wanted to further the learning that has taken place in the sessions, as well as writing detailed reports for parents and teachers to compliment the feedback she gives after every session.
Alex has varied experience in working with children with English as an additional language and children with Special Educational Needs (including autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and processing difficulties). She also has experience in challenging and pushing the very highest attainers to reach their full potential.
Alex started her career in a thriving and forward-thinking primary school on the outskirts of Oxford and quickly gained a role within the Senior Leadership Team as Head of English in her third year of teaching. She has championed successful whole school initiatives particularly focused around improving reading comprehension and raising standards in writing as well as mentoring newly qualified teachers in the teaching of English and carrying out whole school monitoring and strategic forward planning.
Following on from this, Alex embarked on a new challenge in September 2020 taking on a leadership role, alongside full-time classroom teaching, in a large academy trust in Oxfordshire.
Alex qualified to teach Primary education in 2015, and holds a BA(Ed) with English Specialism from University of Reading.

"I can’t thank you enough for suggesting Alex as a tutor for Theo. He was so far behind expectations for the UK we were very concerned about our return for August 2020. Alex has been amazing with him and has built his confidence in maths and English brilliantly! She’s shared her plans with us each week and advised us on how to support him between sessions. He’s now secure at Year 3 work and will begin Year 4 a little bit ahead which is wonderful.
They’ve worked the past few lessons on extended writing, and today Theo finally finished his piece on Messi, his favourite footballer. Alex is intending to tweet this to Messi - much to Theo’s delight.
I was concerned at how well the online sessions would work - but I think you can see from both their smiles on the attached photo it’s gone brilliantly!"

Alex was an excellent teacher who had a great impact on the children in her care. She was given the responsibility of class teacher for Year 6- this being a crucial year in which pupils undertook their end of primary school tests. Results were always good. Alex worked very well with her team and with the whole school staff, she was a motivator for many. She worked thoroughly and meticulously through all areas of development for the school as a senior leader for Literacy.

Alex was an exceptional member of staff during her time at our school. She taught across a range of year groups, taught and delivered the end of Key Stage 2 SATs and contributed to the wider school life through delivering clubs. Alex was always an efficient communicator and often led staff meetings, team meetings and training. As Literacy Co-ordinator, Alex worked with members of staff to improve their teaching and subject knowledge, and would always lead by example. I would have no hesitation in re-employing her.

For the past 4 years I have had the privilege of working with Alexandra at a large, outstanding primary school in South Oxfordshire. She has consistently taught to an outstanding standard in the classroom and this is evident in the results which her children have achieved, particularly last year in her role as a Year 6 teacher. Working alongside Alex in Year 6, she rapidly developed a strong understanding of the expectations for the end of Key Stage 2 and I believe this would stand her in good stead for working with children across the primary age range. For the past 2 years, Alexandra held the role of English subject leader. In this role, she worked tirelessly alongside other senior leaders to improve standards across the whole school from Reception to Year 6, particularly driving a whole school initiative to promote a love of reading. Not only does Alexandra promote excellent academic outcomes for her pupils, she also provides support for the holistic development of the children and works hard to quickly develop relationships rooted in mutual respect.
