Tutor profile - Josie

Josie qualified as a teacher through the prestigious Teach First training programme gaining an ‘Outstanding’ professional practice grade in her PGCE awarded by the UCL Institute of Education. She has taught for ten years in large and diverse schools in Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Richmond as a class teacher, English Subject Leader and Special Educational Needs teacher. Josie has taught across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 specialising in preparing children in Year 2 and Year 6 for their end of key stage examinations in Maths, Reading, Writing, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling and Phonics.

Josie is a dedicated, positive and patient teacher who has high expectations of the children she teaches and believes that, with appropriate support and encouragement, all children can make excellent progress. She is particularly motivated by fostering a genuine love for learning and believes that engaging children through their interests is the key to ensuring their learning goals are met.

Josie graduated from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours Degree in Philosophy and has since completed a Master’s Degree in Education, Gender and International Development with University College London in which she achieved a Distinction. She has a passion for widening access to quality education for all children and has worked in schools in India and Africa.

When not in the classroom, Josie enjoys ballet dancing, marathon running, reading and travelling. She also teachers yoga to children and teenagers.
