Emily's biography
Emily has 13 years of experience as an outstanding educator. She studied at The University of St Andrews, obtaining her Masters in Classical Studies and Ancient History before a year spent teaching English as a Foreign Language in Argentina. She then completed her PGCE at Newcastle University in 2007. Emily spent 11 years teaching in London. She quickly built up extensive experience of diverse and targeted pedagogy as well as adapting her teaching to various learning styles.
With a Masters degree in History, Emily excelled in her first post as Head of History, in a school judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. Emily enjoyed delivering a creative curriculum and was encouraged to do the same at her next appointment at Wetherby Preparatory School. Here, she became Head of English and helped implement a successful Scholarship programme and specialised in teaching for 13+ entry to the most prestigious and competitive schools in London and the surrounding area. She moved on to her third school to take a post as Senior English teacher and there was passionate about delivering excellent results in GCSE English. She currently teaches up to and including GCSE English Language and English Literature in Buckinghamshire at an independent co-ed school. Her personal passion is poetry and Emily prides herself on getting even the most reluctant poet to appreciate the genre.
As a mother of two young children, Emily understands the pressure to do the best for your child as well as knowing how to encourage their own self belief and confidence. Emily has experience of delivering a creative curriculum to Gifted and Talented children as well as those with Special Educational Needs, including dyslexia and autism. Emily has extensive experience in tutoring - indeed, a recent email from a parent revealed that one of her first very reluctant students had had a love of English sparked by her tutoring and went on to achieve A*s in GCSE English. This sort of result spurs Emily on to cater to every individual and tailor each lesson to their needs and interests. Each student will finish a lesson feeling renewed resilience and determination to succeed.
