Tutor profile - Lena

Lena studied Human Biology at the University of Birmingham in 2009 and was awarded a First Class Honours degree. Since that point she has trained to be a fully qualified Science teacher with a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Warwick.
Lena recently took a break from education and worked as a Manager in one of the largest financial institutions- HSBC , which enabled her to transfer her skills and develop outside the world of education.

Lena's passion for education has led her back to the classroom and she now teachs Biology to students from KS3-5 and is Deputy Head of Sixth Form at a Secondary School. To date, she has worked with several A-Level Biology students who wished to study Biology at Oxford University and a students who wished to apply to Medicine. Both the students applying to Oxford received offers and one of her students now studies Biology at Oxford University. She has also had success with her students who wished to pursue Medicine as 5 of her students are now in their second year of Medicine. This year, she has supported another Biology student through their application to study Medicine at Cambridge University and the interview process.

Lena has extensive experience of working with young people and keeping them focussed to succeed. She has excellent communication skills which means that she is able to explain difficult concepts in a format which is accessible to students. Outside of work Lena likes to keep active and enjoys going to the gym. At present, she is completing the ‘INSANITY’ programme which is run by an American ex-marine.
