Alice's biography:

Alice is a fully qualified primary school teacher with eight years of experience working in education. She began her career after completing an undergraduate degree in English at Oxford Brookes University. Following this, she completed her PGCE at the University of Roehampton via the School Direct route. Since then, she has taught across all primary year groups, providing her with a profound understanding of how children progress throughout their early years at school.

As well as Class Teacher, Alice has been Head of Maths and Strategic Leader of Maths across three primary schools. Recognised as an ‘outstanding’ teacher, she has run 1:1 and small group intervention sessions for pupils in Years 1- 6 in Maths, Reading and English. She has worked closely with children in Year 2 and Year 6 in preparation for their SATs, using concrete resources, visuals, and an approach to teaching that harnesses working in small steps to ensure all children achieve, regardless of their predisposition in terms of their learning. In addition to this, she has worked with children with a range of SEN such as autism, dyscalculia and dyslexia, tailoring resources to ensure a meaningful learning experience for each individual child.

Alice has worked closely with the South London Maths Hub to become an expert in the teaching of Maths Mastery. This is an approach to Maths teaching, aimed at developing and embedding fluency, deep knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts, through following the concrete, pictorial, abstract sequence. Alice has also taken part in a research project at the University of Greenwich, exploring the effective teaching and learning of times tables. As a result of this, Alice has had excellent results from the children she has taught Maths, developing confident, fluent and resilient mathematicians.

Trained in mindfulness for children, Alice has had great success in teaching children to use a 'growth mindset' when it comes to their learning. She is well versed in discretely incorporating elements of this into her teaching, helping children to manage stress and uncertainty with resilience and calmness. Alice advocates a child led approach to teaching, ensuring that the children she teaches make notable progress. She is highly proficient in adapting lessons and tailoring resources to meet the individual needs of her students. Alice prides herself on planning fun, interactive lessons, in which students may excel.

Alice's qualifications:

Alice qualified to teach Primary education in 2015, and holds a PGCE in Primary Education from University of Roehampton.
