Andrew was integral to the introduction of the IB at an independent school, where he taught English at both Higher and Standard level along with supervising extended essays and teaching Theory of Knowledge. He attended a week-long residential course at this time. Since then he has given private tuition to IB candidates, particularly on world-literature coursework.

Andrew is an exceptional teacher, with decades of experience teaching at some of the country's top schools. His subject knowledge is fantastic and he thinks carefully about the best means of facilitating the learning of those he educates. He is very interested in pedagogical theory and practice, and uses this to inform his teaching. He is also extremely thoughtful, and kind, in the way that he deals with learners, as well as fully committed to helping them get the best out of themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for an English tutor.

Andrew is the most brilliant and committed tutor I have ever known. I have 3 children and have had a number of tutors in the past and none of them came close to Andrew's intelligence or demonstrated his exception care. He taught my daughter English for 2 years during her GCSEs and I believe transformed her understanding and love for the subject. He inspired her, gave her confidence and showed her new depths in a subject she found quite hard. Needless to say she ended up achieving A*s (9s) in both English literature and English Language. I know how hard it is to find truly exceptional teachers and Andrew is one of them. Any student would be incredibly lucky to have him.

I’ve known Andrew for the last 5 years as Jonty’s school tutor and as one of his English teachers for the A levels syllabus. I had home educated my son until part way through year 6 so the transition to a secondary school with 1000 students was a big change from his 2 years at prep school with 18 students in his year. On first meeting at the school orientation day for new parents, I was extremely impressed and actually very surprised that Andrew could refer to quotes my son had made in his school application form. He clearly knew what his interests and aspirations were, even though none of us had met yet. During my son’s first term, Andrew’s help, support and knowledge with the educational and school system, was invaluable. He guided and supported us in organising laptop use for classes and exams which transformed my son’s school experience and his struggles with dyspraxia and visual processing. He ironed out other issues skilfully and seemingly effortlessly but I know that he was working hard behind the scenes. He was super supportive to my son as well as to me through the entire 5 years, right up to and including the U.K. university application process. My son describes Andrew as a “legend” and I know him to be one of the most popular teachers amongst the boys and parents. As a teacher he encouraged individual thought and opinions and his passion for English literature and drama are self evident in any conversation with him. My son gained an A* in A level English and he credits this to Andrew’s teaching and notes (and his hard work naturally). He was generous in marking practice work and answering questions on work he hadn’t set. Whilst Andrew didn’t teach my son drama, he did cast him in Titus Andronicus which he loved being in. My son set his sights on Cambridge almost as soon as he started in school partly because Andrew had gone there. Andrew is an inspiring teacher who clearly gets his students to perform well in exams but also encourages a genuine love of learning for the subject. He goes the extra mile and is efficient, professional and knowledgeable with the school and exam process. Importantly, he is an excellent role model and a man of integrity. He genuinely cares about his students. I have no reservations in recommending Andrew as a tutor to you.
