Kate's biography

Kate is a Cambridge History graduate with around 6 years of experience teaching English full-time at secondary schools in London. Since graduating from Cambridge in 2012, she has tutored privately alongside full-time teaching and whilst studying for a Masters in Psychology between 2016 and 2018.

Kate began teaching through the Teach First Leadership Development Programme in September 2013, where she was placed at Westminster Academy in London and has taught English at KS3, KS4 and IB level ever since. Kate received QTS status and her PGCE in English at the end of her first year of teaching, as is custom, in August 2014. Kate remained at Westminster Academy until 2016, where she earned the position of 'Achievement and High Potential Co-ordinator in English'; she was responsible for the provision of education both within and outside of the curriculum for high performing students in English.

Kate took a break from teaching between 2016 and 2018 to study for a Masters degree in Psychology at London South Bank University, an ambition she had harboured for many years. After obtaining a Distinction at the end of her course, she returned to teaching and is now Deputy Head of English at Arts and Media School Islington, where she has worked for 3 years.

In terms of Kate's private tuition experience, she has worked with KS3, GCSE/iGCSE and IB English Literature students, both face-to-face and via online tuition platforms. Kate is a dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic teacher, with demonstrated success assisting her students to achieve top grades in their examinations. Kate also has extensive experience working with SEN students (ASC, Dyslexia, BESD) so is able to tailor her tutoring to the individual needs of each student she works with.

IB Experience

Kate taught IB English Language and Literature (Higher Level and Standard Level) at Westminster Academy (London) for two academic years (taking her classes through the entirety of their course). All of her students were awarded Grades 5-7 at the end of their course, which was a significant achievement given that most of the students had only a C or B grade at GCSE level in English prior to starting the course.

Since then, Kate has tutored IB English Literature (Higher Level) online to students privately, alongside teaching full-time. She is familiar teaching both the IB English Literature course and the IB English Language and Literature course, at both Higher and Standard Level.

Having obtained a 7 in IB History (Higher Level) and obtained a 2.1 degree in History from Cambridge, Kate is able to tutor IB History at Standard or Higher Level to prospective students.
