Juan's biography:
Juan graduated with a first in Biology from Imperial College, London and taught for four years, training through the Teach First program. A passion for explaining tricky concepts in science led him to pursue a Master's degree in Science Communication, also at Imperial, during which time he developed his skills further by producing short films and radio shows based around scientific issues. Juan's passion for explaining new ideas is reflected in his career choices, both in and beyond the classroom. He has used his teaching experience to help organisations like Nesta and Google develop educational initiatives such as the Planet Science website and the Google Science Fair.
In addition to being a versatile communicator, Juan is very adaptable as a tutor. Both of the schools he taught at were very demanding in terms of differentiating his teaching, and he has taught pupils all the way along the ability range, from those with severe learning difficulties to students classified as being Gifted and Talented. His most recent school specialised in helping children with SEN, including dyslexia, and as a result of this experience he is very sensitive about adapting his tutoring style to cater for the needs of all his students.
Juan has many years of tutoring under his belt, across a huge range of subjects and for different objectives. His subject specialism is in Biology and Chemistry, but has worked with students on Maths, Geography, English, IT and Media Studies. Most recently, he worked full time for a family that was travelling around the world, and Juan tutored both their children. He showed his adaptability as a tutor, making the most of new surroundings to enrich the learning experience.
When he is not tutoring, Juan loves ridiculous endurance events. He's completed several Ironman events and is currently training for a bunch of deferred events for 2021!
Juan's qualifications:
Juan qualified to teach Science in 2008, and holds a Qualified Teacher Status ("QTS") from Nottingham Trent University.

Recent testimonials:
"Juan tutored my son in Science in preparation for the Eton College Scholarship Exam. He first made sure that my son first had a high level of foundation in terms of all the concepts, Once the foundation was solid, they moved to practicing the papers required under Scholarship. My son passed the Science Scholarship. Juan made the sessions engaging and enjoyable and did an excellent job organising and planning the work and then teaching my son to think and solve the complex questions demanded by Scholarship with confidence. He is a fantastic tutor and I highly recommend him."
