Theory of Knowledge
Tom is a teacher of Classics at Highgate School in North London, where he has taught Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient History. He has has had a range of positions of additional responsibility at the school, including running extracurricular programmes that were delivered to several hundred students. Prior to teaching at Highgate, Tom taught Classics at Sevenoaks School in Kent.
Tom has tutored students from KS3 through to GCSE and A-Level, primarily in Latin language and literature. His approach to tutoring is a highly personalised one, based on developing an understanding of the individual student’s needs and interests. He is a keen believer in the idea that tutorials should be something that students look forward to rather than a chore, and he always ensures that his tutorials are fun and engaging.
Before becoming a teacher, Tom studied for a degree in Classics from the University of Oxford, from which he graduated with First Class Honours, and a PGCE in Classics at King’s College London. He also holds an MA in Education from King’s College London, from which he graduated with a distinction.
Beyond teaching, Tom is a keen musician and regularly plays in a wedding band. He is also interested in languages and is a fluent Italian speaker.
Thomas qualified to teach Latin in 2010, and holds a PGCE from King's College London.

We collect references for all of our tutors when they join. Not all referees agree to have their reference publically listed, but when they do we show them here.
Tom is very able classicist indeed. He has been a competent, popular classroom teacher well known for his wit and perception; as a one-to-one tutor he is very well placed indeed to inspire and cajole pupils equally - he has excellent subject knowledge and a lively rapport with pupils of all abilities, and much patience too. His intelligence is wide-ranging and vigorous as his degree class and his subsequent legal studies - which have not interfered with his teaching - have shown.
