We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

There are no registration fees. This means that you can meet a tutor without having to pay anything. You will only be invoiced if you engage one of our tutors to deliver tuition after having discussed your requirements with them.
Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Meredith's biography
Meredith studied BA Classics at the University of Oxford and an MA in Shakespeare Studies at King’s College London and the Globe. After eight years of teaching secondary English Language & Literature and Latin in the classroom, she is currently researching for a PhD in English & Classics at King’s College London. A passionate educator, she is keen to continue supporting students from KS3 to KS5 whilst pursuing her own academic studies.
As IB Pastoral Lead (Head of Year 12 and then Year 13) with three years of IB English Diploma teaching experience in her most recent school and three years teaching English Pre-U in a central London Sixth Form before that, she has a wealth of expertise engaging and educating 16-18 year-olds. This includes counselling and preparing them for university interviews and applications (especially for Oxbridge, but also in the US).
In addition, she has taught CIE English Literature & Language IGCSE for three years and is confident guiding students through other exam boards at KS4. Having taught internationally and in the UK, she prides herself on her inclusive and globally aware teaching style – whether online or teaching in person in central and south west London, her differentiated and exam-oriented approach has helped many students to success and a greater understanding of (and appreciation for) literature.
Alongside English, she has taught GCSE Latin (OCR) and tutored a student in Classical Civilisation. Whether in Classics or English, Meredith is happy to support secondary students both through exams and in their journey towards higher education.
IB Experience
- IB Pastoral lead (Head of Years 12 and then 13): in charge of 86 students whom Meredith helped guide and academically monitor (working closely with the IB Co-ordinator and University Counselling team) over their two years completing the IB Diploma. Her year group achieved an average of 37.1 points out of 45, significantly above the global average of 30.24 in 2023 and she helped ensure a 99% full IBDP pass rate. Their university matriculations include Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities in the UK, Ivy league in the US, as well as other top universities in Canada, Europe, and Asia.
- Teacher of English Language & Literature, and Literature (both Standard Level and Higher Level): Meredith was in charge of the long-term planning and moderation of the Literature course (a year's experience), in addition to having three years of experience teaching Language & Literature. She has completed the Cat 2 training with the IB for Literature. She has guided two students with their Extended Essay in English, both of which received an A.
- Teacher of TOK (Theory of Knowledge): Meredith has taught this course for a year and has experience with the requirements of the essay.
