St Paul’s 7+ Practice Pack 2 (3 papers)
£15.00
Prepare your child for the St Paul’s Prep School 7+ assessment with this complete practice pack, written by Owl Tutors to mirror the three written tests sat on the day: an English dictation, a Mathematics paper and a Reasoning paper. Each paper is pitched at Greater Depth in the Year 2 National Curriculum, with some Year 3 content, in line with the school’s published guidance. Because St Paul’s does not release past papers, this pack gives parents and tutors a realistic picture of what to expect. Detailed mark schemes come with every paper, covering accepted answers, partial credit and common errors, so you can see where your child is strong and where to focus next. The 14-page A4 pack is ready to print and includes timings, a score summary and clear instructions for running each paper at home.
Please note the pack is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by St Paul’s School.
Description
Paper 1: English Dictation (25 marks)
A 98-word dictation passage from the classic children’s novel Heidi, read aloud by an adult.
A step-by-step adult script, with suggested pauses, shows how to run the three readings the way an exam would.
It tests spelling, punctuation and accuracy, including direct speech, capital letters and commas.
A separate lined writing page and a pupil self-check list help build good proofreading habits.
The mark scheme scores 12 target words individually and flags common misspellings such as “lightening”.
Paper 2: Mathematics (44 marks)
33 questions in four sections, building from quick calculations to multi-step puzzles.
It covers the four operations, missing number problems and the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
It includes Year 3 place value, along with shape, money, measures and time questions.
A final problem-solving section stretches the strongest candidates, with questions on working backwards and reasoning.
The mark scheme gives partial credit for working on 2-mark questions, so effort and method are rewarded.
Paper 3: Reasoning (41 marks)
An original comprehension story, The Lighthouse Cat, with questions on retrieving information and making inferences.
Vocabulary puzzles test synonyms, opposites, odd one out, analogies and compound words.
Hidden-word and missing-letter puzzles build the flexible word knowledge the school’s guidance describes.
Number, letter and code sequences, plus logic and balance puzzles, develop non-verbal and numerical reasoning.
The mark scheme accepts any wording that shows understanding and highlights the hardest questions to discuss with your child.
