Marymount International School entrance guide

An international Catholic girls’ school in Kingston Upon Thames and just a short train journey to central London, Marymount is a popular choice with locals and those who live further afield looking for a selective school.

Like many international schools, Marymount provides a comprehensive IB curriculum and maintains an excellent reputation for top results. To further emphasise its international credentials it merges elements of the US and UK systems in its terminology. The school offers both day and boarding places for girls aged 11-18.

Marymount is a relatively small school with around 250 girls enrolled across six years, or “grades”, including the Sixth Form. Entry to the school is dependent upon successfully passing the admissions process, including examinations. The school welcomes in year applicants to contact the school directly for ‘occasional place’ entries, with the vast majority of girls starting in year 7 (Grade 6) after completing the 11 plus.

Below, you can meet our tutors who have experience supporting applicants to Marymount International, alongside information for families looking for 11+ and occasional in-year entry to this popular international school.

Open Days and Events at Marymount International School

Marymount offers both private tours and specific open day events for prospective families. These can be booked in either directly with the school or via the website. As a large number of students come from overseas, Marymount also provides a comprehensive ‘virtual tour’ on their website, alongside individual online appointments with the admissions team.

11+ Entry to Marymount International School

An assessment day for 11+ entry to Marymount takes place in the second half of the Autumn Term when your child is in Year 6. Parents are asked to submit an application form which includes details of their daughter’s current school. Following this, girls are invited to the assessment day. This will include baseline assessments which are likely to be done via computers, a chance to meet staff and some face to face problem solving activities, likely to be group-based. Marymount prides itself on a relaxed and approachable admissions process, reflected in the chance for prospective students to spend a day at the school meeting current students and staff, and not simply sitting an exam. Offers are sent out quickly following the assessment process, usually the following month.

Occasional In-Year Entry to Marymount International School

Prospective parents for in-year occasional places at Marymount should contact the admissions team to check if there are spaces in the year group. Following this, the same process will apply for 11+ entry, with girls being invited for an assessment day once the application form has been completed with current details.

Scholarships and Bursaries at Marymount International School

Scholarships are available for entry at 11+ at Marymount for all-rounders; assessment for these takes place in the Spring Term of Year 6. Further details are available from the admissions team at the school.

Bursaries are available at Marymount for girls who would not otherwise be able to access the educational opportunities offered. The application forms are available directly from the school and will be assessed on an individual basis.

We could not have asked for a better fit for our son. Emily made him comfortable from the start and he actually enjoyed the tutoring. He is now thriving and at his new school and this is part due to the dialogue between her and his teacher. Emily is really approachable and flexible. Our son was prepared and not anxious for his 11+ exams and that owes significant debt to Emily
Abigail is great with our daughter, making the lessons engaging and helping her to understand the methods behind the answer rather than rote learning. She is able to help explain things in different ways if our daughter isn't initially able to grasp the concept.
Helen is simply an amazing tutor. She is exceptional at explaining maths and english to our son, especially when he needs a bit of extra support in specific areas. She is also extremely organised, structuring his learning around his own needs, as well as highly communicative with us as parents so that we are all on the same page. The cherry on the cake is that she is also warm, friendly, and smiley. Our son always enjoys his sessions with her, as they're joyful but have also really helped him build his skills and confidence.
Alex was great at helping our daughter feel confident before and during the 11+ by working on her less strong areas. She was also excellent at supporting the interview prep making sure she had tools to deal with any questions that came up rather than scripting answers. She was notably more confident after speaking to Alex.
Jacqueline is a fabulous tutor! She is excellent at engaging my somewhat head strong daughter and has not only picked up on her strengths, but is encouraging her to build on them which is increasing her confidence. Jacqueline’s knowledge is second to none, but what makes her wonderful has been her ability to get to know my daughter, understand her way of thinking and adapt a teaching style that brings out her best work. I trust Jacqueline 100% and no longer sit in on my daughters sessions. I leave them to it as I know Jacqueline has the experience and level of expectation that is needed to help my daughter reach her full potential.
