Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session

Yasmin was able to understand my son’s strengths and weaknesses from the very first lesson. She provided him with the tools and techniques to help him to develop his ideas and revise texts. This in turn gave him the confidence that he was lacking in the lead up to the GCSE exams. My son found Yasmin’s support extremely helpful.

Yasmin's biography
Yasmin is an experienced teacher, examiner, and AQA specialist, having taught and tutored English for the last ten years. In her former role as the Second in English at Watford Grammar School for Girls, where she was also appointed as Key Stage 3 Coordinator, she contributed to the success of a thriving department that secured some of the best GCSE results in Hertfordshire. Her most recent teaching position was at St Helen’s School in London where she continued to empower her students to achieve their target grades and obtain offers from top Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge. She has extensive experience teaching students with a range of abilities, including those with SEN such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. Throughout her career, Yasmin has been recognised by colleagues and students alike for her professionalism, the strength of her resources, and the excellent rapport she builds with her pupils. Her expertise in the subject and her warm, empathetic teaching style enable her to get the best out of her students. In the words of a former pupil, her “support, motivation, and unending kindness pulled me through my exams.”
Throughout her career, Yasmin has taught the AQA and OCR specifications at both GCSE and A Level, with a consistent record of excellent exam results. In 2022, her entire A-Level class achieved As, with many students exceeding their target grade. Most recently, she helped a GCSE tutee improve by three grades in both English Language and English Literature in only three months.
One of Yasmin’s particular interests is supporting students with difficulties in reading and writing, including dyslexia. She led a school-wide project that developed strategies in order to improve students’ spelling, before completing courses with the University of London and the British Association of Dyslexia, and in turn, delivering training to her colleagues.
As a teacher, Yasmin also had pastoral responsibilities, first as a form tutor and then as a mentor for the most gifted pupils in the school. She has been trained in coaching students using metacognition to help them develop resilience and find new ways of overcoming challenges as independent learners, under her guidance.
Yasmin has a strong academic background, having achieved a First Class Honours in BA English at Southampton University before completing her Masters in Literature and Society at the University of Edinburgh. She then moved to London to study her PGCE at The Institute of Education.
Some recent testimonials from her clients are:
‘We used Yasmin to give my daughter a boost in the three months leading up to the GCSE exams in English Literature and English Language and as a direct consequence of the lessons, my daughter achieved a 7 and 8 when she was predicted a 4 and 5. Yasmin is a great teacher, extremely organised and approachable I would thoroughly recommend her.’
‘Yasmin helped my daughter in GCSE English where her manner of teaching was wonderful and refreshing! She’s patient and supportive, but really knows how to motivate her students when they have a lack of motivation. Yasmin kept lessons focused through a variety of activities that improve essay writing, exam, and even inference skills. She has an incredible gift for teaching and anyone who learns with her is guaranteed to feel empowered.’
‘I would highly recommend Yasmin as a tutor. My Year 13 son has been working with her and she has been fabulous. Very approachable; very good communication; ensuring she is responsive to his learning needs; up to date information on the syllabuses; and excellent planning and resources. We have been grateful to have her support.’
‘I would like to say a huge thank you to Yasmin for all her help and patience with my daughter. Since receiving private tuition, I can see a big change in her attitude towards her English (both Language and Literature). She is so much more confident in how she approaches each lesson. Her English teachers have praised her improvements as she has gone from a grade 2/3 to now achieving 7s. Yasmin sets home revision and creates your own Google classroom, so everything is easily accessible.’
