Tutor profile - Tristan

Tristan knows how to be a top student. He was educated at Alleyn's School, achieving A*s in both Geography and English A level, and subsequently studied Geography and English at Durham University. Here, he achieved first-class honours in all 18 modules of study, and was awarded the vice-chancellor's scholarship - the highest academic award at undergraduate level - based upon his impressive exam results.


Tristan has a track record of getting students top GCSE geography grades. Tristan currently teachers at the world-famous Michaela School, as part of England's best Humanities department as measured by progress 8 (the value-added metric). He has a track record of getting students the GCSE grade in geography they are capable of, using his experience as a qualified GCSE examiner to get the most out of every child.


Tristan knows how to teach. He has tutored numerous clients over the past 7 years (over 500 hours in total), receiving many positive testimonials. As a trainee teacher, Tristan was nominated for the Transforming Lives Award (held across the 52 Harris Academies) based upon ‘the rigour of his lesson planning and positivity’. The nomination read: ‘Tristan really cares. He cares first and foremost about the students and is meticulous in his planning to ensure students’ progress’.


Above all, Tristan enjoys motivating and engaging his pupils. Geography is an inherently interesting subject, and it's a shame so many pupils don't enjoy it to its potential. Tristan's teaching philosophy is simple. Sufficient grounding on the essential knowledge enables students to feel confident to understand concepts, case studies and writing in more depth. He believes that pupils feel successful when the know lots of stuff: the more they know, the more confident they feel! It is this virtuous circle that Tristan aims to get students feeling through his tutoring.
