Julian

Julian has a wealth of experience teaching science at all levels from primary age to foundation degree level. He seeks to explain difficult topics in concrete ways, to illustrate ideas with practical examples and to help students see how different ideas relate to one-another. He graduated in Natural Science specialising in Organic Chemistry from Cambridge University and then completed a PGCE at the Institute of Education in London. During his career he has taught chemistry at GCSE, A-level and Foundation Degree level in both school and further education settings, including six years teaching A level at a leading private school which sent many students to Oxbridge and to study medicine each year.

He includes structured explanation, question practice and guidance on exam technique in his lessons and has worked successfully both with students who need confidence building and clarification of basic ideas and with those seeking to sharpen up their knowledge of more advanced concepts. He has run chemistry sessions for home-educated students as part of a home-education co-operative which were warmly received.

He is interested in the history of science, geology and natural history and has enjoyed co-ordinating a community mosaic project over the past few years.
