We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Geraldine's biography
Geraldine recently (2023) home-schooled a student who achieved the highest iGCSE results in Chemistry and Biology in Europe. While naturally delighted to be able to help her student achieve at this high level, Geraldine derives as much satisfaction from encouraging those students who struggle with Science to exceed their own expectations. Geraldine is calm and patient, and, as her students in the past have said 'she never gives up on them'.
Geraldine is a qualified Science teacher with 22 years' experience in the classroom and a Masters in Education. Geraldine teaches all three Sciences at KS3 and KS4, and has taught Chemistry both at 'A' level and at Higher level within the IB Diploma. She has tutored a number of students for CE13+ and School Entrance exams, including one student who passed the Election exam for Westminster College. Geraldine has also worked as a PGCE tutor advising trainee teachers on their subject knowledge and teaching skills. She started teaching in the state system in England, then taught at two highly regarded schools in the UAE where she also tutored two members of the ruling family. She came back to the UK to work at Roedean in 2015, and decided then to work as a private tutor to allow herself more time to pursue other interests.
Geraldine is also an examiner with Edexcel (one of the UK's leading exam boards). This gives her invaluable insight into exam technique, a skill which can easily make the difference between one grade and the next (or indeed the one after). Geraldine encourages her students to think laterally during lessons, but when answering exam questions her advice is very much to give the answer which will be on the mark scheme!
When she is not working, Geraldine loves walking, reading and cooking, and is fortunate enough to be able to spend many hours with her young granddaughter.
IB Experience
Geraldine taught IB Higher level Chemistry for 5 years at JESS in Dubai.

Geraldine's qualifications
Geraldine qualified to teach Science in 1994, and holds a PGCE Secondary Science from University of Wolverhampton.
