Ian completed his degree in astrophysics at UCLAN and went on to complete a PGCE in physics and mathematics at Manchester University in 1990. He then started teaching and taught in two different schools up until April of 2021.
During his career he has have taught a wide range of age and ability and has always striven to bring out the best in the pupils he teaches. A number of his A level students went on to attend many of the top universities, including Oxbridge. Ian has also taught students who have struggled with some of the very difficult concepts in both physics and mathematics, but years of teaching experience have resulted in him realising that the first step is to boost pupil confidence.
His enthusiasm for physics and mathematics has been transferred to his pupils, not only through the results they have attained over his 30 year career, but also in some of his extracurricular work. He supervised a number of teams of sixth form students in national competitions, one of the successes was finishing runners up in a national ‘Big Bang’ (mathematics and physics category) event. He also supervised a team that attained first place in a national ‘particle physics’ competition. The latter resulted in his team being one of only two schools in the world staying at CERN during the first switch on of the LHC, an absolutely amazing experience for anyone interested in STEM subjects. He has 30 years experience teaching physics at key stages 3, 4 and 5 and mathematics at key stages 3 and 4. He has been a Head of Science for 5 of those years.
He has also been an examiner over a period of at least 20 years for both GCSE and A level physics.
He has tutored physics and mathematics ‘face to face’ for a many of years, but more recently moved to almost exclusively online tutoring. His online classes are conducted on Zoom using ‘Bitpaper’ interactive whiteboards. He now wishes to transfer all of this experience to tutoring students and help them to reach their own highest personal potential.
