Emma's biography

Emma is a qualified secondary school teacher, with four years of experience. She taught at Notting Hill and Ealing High School (GDST) from 2016-18, teaching Year 7 to Year 13, including Cambridge IGCSE, as well as both English Literature and English Language A Levels. She prepared students for English degrees and Oxbridge entrance (including the ELAT) through enrichment sessions and mock interviews. She also supported a range of sixth form students through the UCAS process. She has also worked as an examiner for AQA English Literature. She also taught a wide range of learners at Oasis Academy John Williams, South Bristol, between 2013 and 2015, and so is well-placed to help across the ability spectrum.

Emma is a tutor who insists on high standards from her students. She focuses on detailed feedback on students’ work, and setting tasks to improve the work, leading students to achieve more. Being friendly and efficient, Emma ensures that students get the most out of their time with her, and leave feeling more confident because they know what they do well, and what they need to improve. She has experience tutoring students on 11 + exams, GCSE, A Level, Oxbridge entrance and undergraduate.

Emma is a first-class graduate of Cambridge University, having studied Philosophy and English Literature. Before this, attending City of London School for Girls, Emma achieved straight A* in her GCSEs and A Levels (English Literature, Art, Mathematics, and Physics). She also has a PhD in Medieval Studies (English and History) from the University of York, and has taught across the undergraduate program in English at the University of York and more recently at Lancaster University, where her role also included masters teaching and support of PhD students.

Emma can walk the walk as well as talk the talk: she is a published writer, whose work has appeared in several scholarly journals, and she is the author of a forthcoming academic monograph.

School entrance experience

Emma has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:

I helped one client with the 10+ exam at City of London. Having taught at a GDST school (Notting Hill and Ealing High School), which included admissions, I am also well-placed to assist students wishing to attend there. I also went to City of London Girls, so happy to provide insight regarding it.

Emma's qualifications

Emma qualified to teach English in 2014, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education ("PGCE") from University of Bristol.
