After graduating from the University of Leeds in 2011 with a first-class degree in Classical Civilisation, Charlotte began her career in education working as an Intervention Tutor in a London secondary School, supporting students with SEND to achieve their full potential both in and outside of the classroom. In 2013, she trained to be an English teacher through the Teach First programme, obtaining Qualified Teacher Status in 2014. Charlotte taught English for 10 years, taking on a variety of leadership roles in this time including Director of Learning for English. Under her leadership, students achieved exam results in their GCSE and IB examinations that routinely exceeded national and international averages.
Charlotte takes a student-centred approach to tutoring, meaning she places the abilities, interests and needs of each individual young person at the forefront of her planning and delivery. Each session she delivers is tailored to the individual student to ensure they are able to overcome any barriers and reach their full potential whilst at the same time enjoying the process of learning. Charlotte aims to create a safe, positive and collaborative space when tutoring so that students feel confident to be inquisitive, ask questions and reflect on their own strengths and areas for development. Within her tutoring sessions, Charlotte draws on a range of strategies and resources to engage students, ensuring they are active in the learning process. Spoken and written feedback will be provided throughout every tutoring session in order to motivate students and ensure students are aware of next steps, and guidance will be provided on how students can work on these areas for development between sessions.
Charlotte has extensive experience of teaching English Language and Literature at KS3, GCSE and IB level, but is also able to provide support to students studying A-Level English Literature and Year 5 or.6 students who may require support with English and Literacy before their transition to secondary school. In addition, Charlotte can support students with 11+ preparation, interview and UCAS preparation and study skills. Each student will be provided with a bespoke but flexible plan for their tutoring sessions so that they are aware of the short- and long-term goals of their sessions.
Charlotte's teaching background means she has excellent experience of working with students of all abilities, and has successfully planned and delivered targeted masterclasses and intervention programmes to support students with achieving specific goals such as achieving a Grade 7+ or moving from a Grade 3 to Grade 4+ in their GCSE examinations. Charlotte is also experienced in teaching students who have SEND and has previously delivered specific intervention lessons to support EAL students to improve their language acquisition.
