Tutor profile - Kate

Kate studied at Goldsmiths University of London in 2019, where she achieved a PGCE in Secondary English Teaching. Before that, she studied at the University of Sheffield where she achieved a First-Class degree. Kate is an extremely passionate English teacher with a particular interest in using different pedagogical approaches to support pupil needs.

Kate's classes' GCSE English Language and Literature exam results are exceptional, with all of her Year 11 classes receiving within the top 10% of results in the country for their progress (pupils' final results compared to their predicted grades). This highlights the excellent quality of teaching she delivers.

She has over four years' experience of teaching English Literature and English Language to pupils in London Secondary Schools. She is talented at building rapport with pupils through her empathetic, warm, encouraging and patient approach, whilst being highly ambitious for pupils and celebrating their abilities.

Through her approach, she gets to know a pupil's specific needs first, before adapting and varying her techniques to have the biggest impact. The range of approaches she uses draw on academic research, and include short, skills based activities around grammar; creative writing and analysis tasks; and longer activities which combine both skills and knowledge for completing more in-depth work. Kate regularly marks and feeds back on pupil work to ensure each session builds on previous learning. She begins her lessons with a recap of previous work, referring back to this throughout the course, to ensure past learning is embedded in pupils' minds.

Kate loves being an English tutor, and is passionate about helping pupils at all levels to develop their English skills and achieve their full potential.
