Are you hoping for your child to win one of the places at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls’ School at 7+? Read on! This blog tells you everything you need to know about the application process: from registering your child to applying, exams and the interview process.

Introduction

The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls’ School is an independent day school for girls, situated in Hertfordshire. Most pupils join the school via the main admissions points at 4+ and 11+, but there are approximately 10 places available at the 7+ entry point each year.

Casual places into other year groups can be gained groups if spaces become available.

Before you apply

The school encourages anyone interested in applying for Haberdashers’ Girls’ School to attend one of their School in Action mornings, which take place throughout the year. Parents can book a place on one of these mornings via the website.

The school does not have a sibling policy, meaning that siblings of current students are not given preferential treatment.

For the year 2024/25, the fees for students in Year 3 (the year 7+ feeds into) were £7,650 per term, which works out at £22,950 per year. This fee includes lunches.

The school does offer scholarships and bursaries, but only for students in the Senior School.

Application

Applications for entry into Year 3 in September 2025 are open now. The application can be completed online through this link:

https://www.habsgirls.org.uk/registration-form/

There is a non-refundable registration fee of £150 (£200 for overseas applicants). At the time of writing, the application deadline is Friday 8th November 2024.

Assessments

The 7+ assessment for Haberdashers’ Girls’ School is a multistage process.

Stage 1

All candidates will attend a group activity morning. These will take place on Tuesday 26th November 2024.

Stage 2

A reduced number of candidates are then invited to an assessment day, where they will complete a series of formal tests in reading, writing and maths, and take part in a group discussion. These will take place on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December 2024.

For those invited to the assessment day, the Head of the child’s current school will be asked to provide a written reference as to the candidate’s academic ability, attitude and behaviour, involvement in the School community, talents and interests, and any other special circumstances such as special educational needs, or disability. The reference may also include the results of tests taken at the school, such as NFER, SATs or the results of their baseline testing.

Candidates who were successful in the first stage will also be invited back, with their parents, to meet the Head of the Junior School and other senior staff members. These family interviews will take place at the same time as the Stage 2 assessments.

Results

Offers for successful 7+ candidates to Haberdashers’ Girls’ School will be posted soon after the second stage is complete.
