Fleur's biography

Fleur is an experienced teacher with over 18 years experience of raising achievement in London schools. Her enthusiasm and student centred approach has been a led her to have many successes including consistently helping students of mixed ability to score above their predicted grades. Through building supportive relationships with students, she has been able to imbue a renewed sense of confidence which has unlocked many learning barriers.

Fleur has taught in schools across London, where as a head of Latin, she was responsible for the subject’s development and uptake. Through creating a dynamic and differentiated curriculum, Latin became one of the most popular and successful subjects in the school. Her GCSE results were consistently the highest in the school with over 90% achieving an A or A*. As a member of the modern languages department she has extensive knowledge of teaching French and Spanish up to A-level, with an in depth understanding of the exam requirements.

Over the last 10 years, Fleur has also worked privately as a tutor. She enjoys the ability of working one-to-one with students and help them to gain the deeper insight of the subject and confidence outside of the classroom. She is adept at understanding the individual needs of each student and ensures she works alongside parents to ensure that objectives are shared. Above all, Fleur believes that learning should be fun; inspiring curiosity and lifelong learning. Her lessons are carefully designed to engage the student through fun and meaningful activities.

Fleur has experience of tutoring students for the Eton Scholarship exam in French, those preparing for the 13+ at Dulwich college, 11+ interviews, Westminster, Alleyns and has great success with A level students preparing personal statements and interview practice in application for Oxford and Cambridge. She also has acted as a mentor and study coach to students attending these schools to overcome self esteem and confidence issues related to studying. She has managed to help these students to pass exams and achieve their goals. Testimony to this is long lasting relationships with students and their families.

Fleur holds an undergraduate degree in Spanish and Arabic, a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages and an MSc with distinction for Ethnobotany. Fleur also works at Kew Gardens where she teaches plant and fungi science to visiting schools and colleges. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Queen Mary's University in the department of geography.
