Matt is an experienced tutor and has developed an innovative and personal approach to one-on-one tuition which encourages his students to develop a self-motivated love of learning, while building their confidence and supporting their progress. Deeply passionate about his subject, Matt hopes to inspire this same passion in his students.
Qualifying as a teacher in 2009, Matt has spent the past decade teaching Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, iGCSE, GCSE and A-Level English at a number of state and independent secondary schools. Over the years, he has planned and taught thousands of lessons, designed dozens of schemes of work, led whole-school learning initiatives and developed a collaborative and student-led approach to classroom teaching. He has successfully prepared several Oxford and Cambridge university applicants, helping them with the English Language Aptitude Test (ELAT), their personal statements and mock interviews.
Passionate about empowering students to take control of their studies, Matt's current role as Head of Academic Projects at a leading South London independent school sees him involved in several research projects aimed at developing independent learning. Matt's goal is to inspire his tutees to take ownership of their learning, while watching them grow into successful students who progress swiftly.
Matt has an undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and a Masters Degree in Early Modern Studies from UCL. Specialising in 16th and 17th century literature, he is currently working towards a PhD. Outside of teaching, Matt runs a successful theatre company.
