Melissa's biography

Melissa studied at Wycombe Abbey School before doing her undergraduate degree in Classics at Edinburgh University. She graduated with a First - the highest in her year. She then took a year off where she tutored full time for six months before travelling. After that she did a postgraduate degree - an Mst in Classics at Magdalen College, Oxford University. She was awarded a Distinction. From there, she taught Classics at King's College School Wimbledon for 3 years (all boys from years 9 to 11 & co-ed in the sixth form). During that time she got her teaching qualification - classified 'Outstanding'. As part of her training/ qualification, she taught English Language and Literature at a nearby school from the ages of 13 to 18. She oversaw UCAS admissions in Classics. She took a year out to live in Paris where she taught English as a foreign language to working professionals before returning to teach Classics at North London Collegiate for a year's maternity cover (all girls years 7-13). From there she moved on to Highgate School where she taught for 6 years (co-ed years 7-13). In addition to Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation she taught History of Art at sixth form level. Her pupils achieved top results across the board. She left teaching in 2022 to train as a life coach and now coaches young people, university students and those in their 20s and early 30s. She remains passionate about education in the Humanities and so continues to teach 1-1 alongside her coaching.

IB Experience

I taught the IB Classics syllabus at King's College Wimbledon and at North London Collegiate. I held the role of Supervisor for IB Extended Essays in Classics.

All students I have worked with on their personal statements have been successful in gaining a full list of offers. I work a lot with students to prepare them for Oxbridge interviews. I also work a lot with students to help them research and write essays to submit for UK and global competitions. Many of my students have gained prizes and acclaim.
