Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Alveena’s calm manner, teaching style and professionalism were a huge help and very much appreciated by both my children.
Mother of two MYP IB Physics students
Ally's biography
Alveena is a qualified Physics teacher and has over 20 years experience both in the classroom and 1:1 settings. She has a PGCE in Secondary Physics and Science teaching. Alveena's approach is encouraging and she aims to help students develop a deep understanding of the subject. She is an experienced IB Physics specialist, an examiner and an educator who enjoys teaching students of all levels.
Her career in teaching and tutoring has led her to believe that excellence must be nurtured for all students, and she always try encouraging students to be curious and ask probing questions, motivates them to embrace challenges, and to be ambitious learners within an inspirational and creative environment.
Each child is an individual and will learn at their own pace, the love of learning must be cultivated and developed using different learning techniques. Alveena believes that an all-encompassing and holistic approach to education provides this and allows students to build on their skills and widens their professional aspirations, thus preparing them for the future.
She always encourages an accumulative learning approach by promoting deep learning rather than a shallow or strategic understanding and places great emphasis on transferable skills.
All students who collaborate with Alveena will be provided with detailed lessons and resources, exam questions with step-by-step solutions, individualised learning plans, exam technique and revision strategies, positive reinforcement, and encouragement along with innovative learning techniques and a collaborative environment where they work together to achieve the best outcomes.
Alveena attended St. Ninian’s High School and was accepted into University at the end of Year 12 as she had gained the necessary grades for her course in Physics. She graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc (Hons) in Laser Physics and Optoelectronics. Following this, her first graduate position was at IBM (Scotland). Alveena has always enjoyed working with young adults and decided to change her career path and completed a PGCE in Secondary Physics and Science teaching, gaining a merit in this. This is where her educational journey began.
After teaching for a few years in Scotland, Alveena looked to expand her career options and moved to Dubai. Firstly, teaching at Jumeirah College as Head of Physics and then moving on to Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS). After living in the UAE for nine years, she decided to move back to Scotland and started teaching Physics at St Aloysius’ College. This then led to Alveena's next international endeavour to the United States, where she was offered a job at the British International School of Houston and worked there as Head of Physics for four years.
After experiencing what America had to offer and travelling to 43 States, she decided to move to Singapore for a different cultural experience and travel opportunities. Here she was a member of the Science faculty at Tanglin Trust School, teaching both IB and A Level Physics. She moved back to Scotland in 2022 and is now working at Gordonstoun School as a Teacher of Physics.
Alveena would like to use her plethora of experience in IB, A Level and IGCSE Physics and tutor students so that they can thrive during their educational journey and flourish in their educational journey and future careers. Her aim is to facilitate excellent learners who have the best outcomes.
IB Experience
Alveena has been teaching IB Physics for 13 years, and she is a Senior Examiner for the IB, examining both the Internal Assessment and Higher Level Paper 2. She also leads a team of examiners during the exam session.
Since teaching IB Physics, over 75% of her students have achieved a level 7. Alveena is familiar with the syllabus, option topics, and exam requirements and can lead her students towards a successful outcome.
