Tutor profile - Sonalee

In her 22 year career as an international educator Sonalee has encountered the joys and challenges of teaching diverse learners in the IBDP, IBMYP, IGCSE and KS3. Additionally, she has some experience of the U.S. Common Core. In her specialist subject as an English Language and Literature teacher and Head of Department, her experience in both the skills based and inquiry based approaches to teaching and learning enables her students to achieve their academic goals. They enjoy an in-depth and detailed exploration of a range of written and visual texts, at a senior level taking them further into the discussion of context, intertextuality and their personal relationship with those texts. Furthermore, Sonalee is an IB DP Examiner, up to date with all the requirements of assessments, such as the Individual Oral, HL Essay, Papers 1 and 2 and the Extended Essay. Sonalee's teaching style is a highly collaborative one. She believes it important for her students to be given choice with regard to content and method, where possible, in order to keep them interested and engaged, but also to foster their independence and develop their self-awareness of how they learn best. Through practice and feedback, she then equips her students with the skills of interpretation, analysis and communication (oral/written) required to take exams and produce other forms of assessment content with confidence. In this way, they attain the best possible results in the short term and, importantly, hone skills that are transferable across the curriculum and essential in the long term.
