Tutor profile - Joanna

Joanna is a former secondary teacher with 28 years’ experience of teaching a variety of subjects including geography, French and business subjects at GCSE and A Level and now wants to focus her skills on tutoring individual students. She is available for both home tutoring and online.

For the last 14 years she was head of Geography at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in London where she taught GCSE and A Level as well as organising all the fieldwork trips and exam preparation for whole classes, small groups and individual students. She is experienced in conducting fieldwork at both GCSE and A Level and enjoys preparing A Level geography students for their NEAs.

She has worked as an examiner for AQA in GCSE Geography for 11 years and is now an A Level examiner for Eduqas. She has also acted as a personal tutor to sixth form students helping them with general progress and guiding them with their university applications to Russell Group universities. She is a fluent French speaker with a degree in European Studies and has enjoyed teaching French at different levels to students of all ages including adults, as well as some basic Spanish.

Her teaching aim is to get to know individuals, focusing on building their confidence through developing their strengths and tackling their weaknesses so that they enjoy learning, fulfil their potential, and achieve success. She believes developing strong communication skills, both oral and written, is vital as is improving exam technique by understanding the requirements and then practising the skills needed to answer different types of questions.

With a passion for the natural world and the outdoors, she has inspired many students to continue their geography studies beyond GCSE to university and feels that understanding the world around us and the effect we are having on it, is even more important as we face the challenges of climate change.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking, playing sport and spending time at her home in France.
