We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

A placement fee of £95 is payable for each tutor that is introduced to you - this will only be charged if a tuition session takes place and will be added to your first invoice.
There are no registration fees. This means that you can meet a tutor without having to pay anything. You will only be invoiced if you engage one of our tutors to deliver tuition after having discussed your requirements with them.
Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Pete's biography
Pete has worked in the State sector for over 20 years, having been trained for his PGCE at Cambridge University, Homerton College, by Christine Counsell. He has experience as an examiner for OCR at GCSE for over 9 years, 3 of these as a team leader. He has worked with the exam board on the remarking on 3 occasions. At key stage 5 he has worked for 2 years as an examiner for A-Level at OCR. Furthermore he has examined for 4 years for the International Baccalaureate (IB) as an examiner for the Standard Level Paper 2 essay exam and the extended essay, this summer he was on the remarking team for extended essays.
He currently works full time as Head of History and Religious Studies at a Cambridge school.
IB Experience
Setting up a history course for a new IB sixth form. Teaching IB Diploma (DP) for 11 years, IB Career related Programme (CP) since its inception. In History he has taught for both the European-Asia sphere and North America. Previously he has taught the 1919-1939 programme focusing on Hitler, Mussolini, Mao and Stalin and Tsarist Russia until the fall of the U.S.S.R. Most recently he has taught Hitler, Mao and Castro and The Cold War with the Higher level focus on American Presidents domestic, foreign and Latin America from 1945 to 1980 and Canadian Prime Ministers from 1945 to 1982. Additionally he has taught Global Politics covering subjects such as Human Rights and Peace and Conflict.
In Lessons he uses his experience as an examiner to build substantive knowledge and to apply this to exam style questions. He breaks learning down into chunks and uses recall tasks and practice activities to move knowledge from the working memory to the long term memory. Once applied to examination questions he gives formative feedback for skills to maintain, how to sustain these in other areas of their answer and how to move their critical thinking and writing forward. He has used this successfully to move students to achieving passes as well as to achieving grade 7s and to support a student to study History at Oxford where they have since graduated with a first class honors degree.
