Tutor profile - Alex

Alex is an experienced, friendly and passionate English tutor and teacher who has worked for over 10 years in grammar, international, independent and state schools, alongside tutoring and examining.

She has taught English Literature and Language across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and succeeded in helping and guiding students to achieve their potential. Alex is an examiner for a variety of GCSE and A Level curriculums and exam boards, including English Literature and English Language AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas, which has enabled her to focus her teaching on the specific requirements for these exams and assessments. Further to this, her experience in both the grammar and independent sectors have equipped her with the skills and understanding needed to coach students through 11+ and 13+ entrance exams.

She has a degree in English Literature and a PGCE in English teaching for 11-18 year olds from Canterbury Christchurch University.

Alex has a creative approach to her teaching of English, and always tries to appeal to the passions and interests of each individual student by harnessing their individuality and empowering them to have confidence in their skills and abilities. She has a wide range of experience with high attaining students, and also lower attaining students who require a little extra in terms of support, and prides herself on her ability to find ways to make the curriculum accessible and attainable. She also has extensive experience with SEN students, and students for whom English is not their first language, and has developed strategies and support resources to ensure that these students make progress and fulfil their potential in English.
