Ben studied history at the University of Oxford, before going on to complete the Teach First teacher training programme, where he taught history in South London between 2016-2018. A passionate and dedicated enthusiast not only for history but for a range of subjects, Ben achieved the "outstanding" grade in his teacher training, before going on to complete an MA in Leadership at the UCL Institute of Education, specialising in how school leaders are supporting mental health within English schools. For the past two years, Ben has been a GCSE examiner for two exam boards, and has an invaluable knowledge of what is required to succeed in the examinations. Beginning in October 2019, Ben is currently completing a one year placement at a forest school in Galicia, NW Spain, learning how the outdoor environment can positively impact the intellectual development of school pupils.
Ben began tutoring whilst at Oxford, and has several years of experience in raising the confidence and attainment of his students. The core of a successful tutoring session is, for Ben, building a trusting and secure environment in which the tutee feels secure to ask questions, and there is a lively dialogue between tutor and tutee. At university, Ben specialised in Tudor England, and the global history of the nineteenth century. Since then, he has taught a wide range of historical topics and time periods. Ben has experience working with tutees at GCSE, A Level, and at university - and also with assisting students with their university preparation, for example with the History Aptitude Test required for applications for history at Oxford and Cambridge.
Ben qualified to teach History in 2017, and holds a PGCE from UCL Institute of Education .
