We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Sarah's biography
Sarah currently teaches Maths to pupils aged 11-18 in a small independent school in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and also tutors students privately as often as she can. She is a self-confessed “Maths Geek” and is well known at the College for singing memorable mathematical songs to help her students recall key facts. Her tutoring sessions produce a fun and engaging environment, and she inspires her tutees to look beyond the syllabus and to explore the world of Mathematics for themselves. She has tutored regularly for 5 years, mainly preparing students for GCSE and IB examinations. She is also an examiner at GCSE for Edexcel and for the IB.
After qualifying as a teacher in 1996, she took the decision to experience the world of industry before entering a teaching role. She worked within Financial Services for HSBC, and then Aviva, before returning to her home town to work for the local building society. During the unease of the financial markets over the last decade she decided that she now had enough ‘life experience’ to make her return to the teaching profession a natural change. She has never regretted this decision, and has found the last 10 years of teaching to be immensely rewarding.
As a busy step mum to 4 children under the age of 16 her leisure time is often spent attending Sea Cadet events or children’s parties.
IB Experience
Sarah has taught Mathematical Studies SL and Mathematics SL as part of the IB diploma programme for over 10 years. Her Maths Studies students enjoy her quirky stories and methods to help them apply the required skills to exam questions and they have received some excellent results. Her three years’ experience as an examiner for Maths Studies has provided an insight into how mark schemes are applied to a student’s work and she is able to implement good practice within her teaching.
