Steffan

Steffan has 27 years of experience as a classroom teacher, tutor and Head of Faculty in highly academic schools. He believes that students enjoy mathematics when they can do mathematics and that's where his energy goes. Throughout his career he has delivered high quality, clear and organised lessons at GCSE, A level and A level further mathematics and University entrance across several exam boards and specifications. He has also taught in New Zealand and adapted quickly to the new course and student requirements.

Whether the students are aiming for Oxbridge or clinging on by their fingertips, he will adapt his approach as required to ensure understanding and long term recall. His school based student feedback illustrates 27 years of student progress, inspiration and enjoyment with a careful focus on student engagement, clear explanations and strong skill development. He works hard behind the scenes to ensure students experience the same levels of confidence building through his tutorials. He has also been school lead for EPQ and can offer a health check or taught tutorials for the AQA exam board. An experienced UCAS mentor, Steffan and can also help with personal statement checks or practice interviews for mathematically rich subjects.

He has a first class degree from Liverpool University and forewent the option of post graduate work to train to become a teacher - it has been his vocation since then. Steffan is a research driven, diligent and student focussed teacher with extremely high professional standards - he will find gaps in knowledge and skills and fill them using simple but engaging and effective resources and learning techniques honed over many years of experience and professional research. Always seeking to improve, he has recently developed his teaching techniques using the concept of 'desirable difficulties' to improve recall and long term learning. He will supply brief, tailored questions for work between tutorials which focus on both current content and recall practice from previous tutorials.
Away from education Steffan surfs, kayaks white water, enjoys trail running and swimming in the sea which is steps away from his home in Gwynedd.
