Richmond, being a popular area for families to live in London, has several independent schools known for their academic excellence and facilities including King’s House School, a co-educational school (from September 2024) for children aged 3 to 13, offering both preparatory and pre-preparatory education and The Harrodian School, a co-educational independent school for students aged 4 to 18, providing a balanced education with a strong emphasis on arts and sports.

In addition, there are single-sex schools, including St. Catherine’s School, Twickenham, a girls’ independent school for students aged 3 to 18, offering a broad curriculum and a supportive learning environment.

Slightly further out but still accessible from Richmond are Lady Eleanor Holles, a top-performing school for girls aged 7 to 18 in Hampton, and neighbouring Hampton School, an incredibly popular choice for boys aged 11 to 18, which also has an associated prep school.

Richmond is a wonderful area with plenty to offer for families, including:

  • Richmond Park, a large and beautiful royal park with deer roaming freely. It’s an excellent place for picnics, walking, cycling, and even horse riding.
  • Kew Gardens: visit the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Kew Gardens is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also a fantastic place for children to explore and learn.
  • Richmond Riverside: take a stroll along the scenic Richmond Riverside. You can enjoy picturesque views of the River Thames, watch boats, and perhaps feed the ducks.
  • Ham House and Gardens: explore Ham House, a historic mansion with well-preserved gardens. It often hosts family-friendly events and activities.

These are just a few suggestions, and Richmond has much more to offer. The area is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, green spaces, and cultural attractions. As you settle in, you’ll likely discover even more activities and hidden gems that cater to your family’s interests.
