Alleyn’s Junior School is a co-educational, selective school in Dulwich. The main admission points for the school are 4+, 7+ and 9+ to join Reception, Year 3 and Year 5 respectively.
Alleyns holds open days in the Autumn term for prospective parents and students. In Autumn 2024, these are scheduled for Saturday 21st September between 10-12pm, Wednesday 2nd October and Wednesday 6th November between 1:30-3:00pm. At the open day events, there is an opportunity to hear a talk from the Headmaster and have a tour of the school by current pupils.
At the time of writing, Alleyn’s were charging £7,950 per term for children in Years 3-6 which works out as £23,850 per year.
Registration is open from September 1st to 8th November in the year preceding potential entry. For admission in September 2025, the registration deadline is 8th November 2024. To qualify for the 7+, candidates should have reached their 7th birthday by 1st September in the year preceding entry and therefore turn 8 during the course of the academic year. Applications should be made to the school between September 1st and November of the year preceding entry (this will be in the Autumn the child is in Year 2)
As part of the application, Alleyn’s writes to the child’s current Headteacher to request a report.
For applicants aiming to achieve a place in September 2025, the assessment morning takes place on 7th January 2025.
On the assessment morning, the candidates will have assessments in English, Maths, Non Verbal Reasoning and group tasks. In English, the assessment will include a listening exercise, oral exercises, word recognition, spelling, reading comprehension and writing. In Maths, Candidates will be assessed on number, shape space and measure, handling data and using and applying mathematics. The tests follow the age appropriate national curriculum expectations for the Year group. Part of the tests involve standardised testing which take into account the child’s age at taking the test. The second stage (by invitation only) takes place on 18th January 2025.
The school does not provide sample papers for 7+. However, the school does provide sample papers for Reading Comprehension, Maths and Creative writing for 9+ which can be accessed via the Admission section of their website, http://www.alleyns.org.uk/page.aspx?id=167
Alleyn’s Junior school does not offer any form of scholarship or bursary.
For entry in September 2025, offers are sent out to successful applicants on 1st February 2025. Acceptance of the offer must be received by the school by midday on 8th February 2025. A non-refundable deposit of £1500 is required to secure the place.
Unsuccessful candidates will be placed on a waiting list. When a place arises they will be reconsidered based on their results in the assessments. The waiting list remains open and active until the September following the assessments.
All Alleyns Junior School have automatic entry into the senior school but sit the entrance examination with all other candidates. They make up a third of the Year 7 intake at the senior school.
