How to get into Haberdashers’ Boys’ School at 7+

Introduction
The Haberdashers’ Boys’ School (formerly Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School) is an independent day school for boys aged 4-18, situated in Hertfordshire. Students can enter the Pre-Prep and Prep sections via respective admissions points at 4+ or 7+, and the Senior school via admissions points 11+, 13+ and 16+. It is expected that boys in the Prep School will move to the Senior School. 20 boys are accepted at 7+ into Year 3.
Before you apply
At the time of writing, the next open day at The Haberdashers’ Boys’ School was scheduled for Thursday 18th September 2025, from 9.15am to 10.15am. Please book using this link:

The day will include a tour of the school and a talk from senior staff.
At the time of writing, the fees for the Prep School (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) were £9,849 per term, which equates to £29,547 per annum. These fees include lunch.
Scholarships and bursaries are available, but only to those entering the Senior School.
Application
Applications for 7+ entry in September 2026 are open until Thursday 6th November 2025. There is a fee for overseas applicants. The application form can be completed online through this link: https://www.habsboys.org.uk/admissions/apply
Assessment
The 7+ assessment procedure for Haberdashers’ Boys’ School is two-part. The first round of assessments will take place on Friday 21st November 2025. Boys will take a series of tests in reading, writing, maths and reasoning.
Children who are successful in the first round of assessments will be invited back to attend a second round on Wednesday 17th December 2025. This will involve an English and STEM assessment. Following this, parents are asked to come in with their sons for an interview to meet the Head of the Prep School.
Results
Offers for 7+ entry to Haberdashers’ Boys’ School will be sent out by Friday 23rd January 2026, and must be accepted by 12pm UK time on Wednesday 4th February 2026.
Destination schools
