Are you hoping for your child to win one of the places at University College School at 7+? Read on! This blog tells you everything you need to know about the application process: from registering your child to applying, exams and the interview process.

Introduction

University College School is an independent day school for boys aged 4-18 in Hampstead, North West London (note: the school’s sixth-form is coeducational). Students can enter University College School via admissions points at 4+, 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+. Approximately 60 boys aged 7 are admitted into three classes each year.

Before you apply

It is recommended that parents attend an open day with their child before applying for the school. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the school with a present pupil, talk to staff and meet the Headmaster. Open day dates can be seen here:

For the academic year 2024/25, the fees for studying at University College School’s Junior Branch are £8,184 per term, which correlates to £24,852. The school offers a variety of bursaries and scholarships, but these are only available to those entering the senior school.

Application

Applications are open for 7+ entry to UCS in 2025 until Friday 4th October 2024. The application form can be completed online through this link:

https://www.ucs.org.uk/junior-branch-application-form

A non-refundable registration fee of £150 is payable when an application is submitted.

A confidential report will be requested from a candidate’s current school and this plays an important part in the selection procedure.

Assessments

Assessment for 7+ entry is a two-part process.

In the Autumn Term 2024, boys visit the school and are assessed in small groups whilst their parents tour and meet with the Headmaster.

In January, successful candidates are invited back for English and Maths assessments. In addition to written tests, children will also be assessed on their social interaction and behaviour. As mentioned, the report from the child’s current school also plays an important part in the selection of candidates. The dates for this assessment for 2025 entry are January 2025.

Results

University College School sends offers to successful candidates after the assessment day.

Families who are not successful at 7+ may choose to put their name of a waiting list, should a place become available.

Destination schools

Boys winning a place at UCS at 7+ usually stay at the school for the duration of their schooling. Leavers’ destinations and 2024 exam results can be found here:
