Tutor profile - Nils

Nils has 19 years’ experience of secondary school teaching. He has taught English Language and Literature at Key Stage 3 and 4, and English Literature at Key Stage 5. In his most recent teaching post at Fortismere School, Nils was the Second in Department, a position which included responsibility for Key Stage 4 English. He therefore has a vast amount of experience of teaching all aspects of secondary school English and has a track record of helping students to achieve the highest grades at GCSE and A Level. He has many years’ experience as an AQA GCSE examiner and has been consistently commended for his accuracy and efficiency of marking; he has been offered the role of Team Leader for examining.
Fortismere is an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school and one of the top-performing comprehensive schools in London (rated 9th top comprehensive school in the country by The Sunday Times in 2017). Before this he taught at Loreto College, an extremely high-achieving Catholic all-girls secondary school, and The Broxbourne School, a mixed comprehensive secondary school in Hertforshire.
Nils left his teaching post in September 2018 in order to concentrate on tutoring and to give him time to prepare focused sessions for his students. Nils has a friendly and patient approach to tutoring; he is keen to engage students in their studies through his enthusiasm for his subject but also through his knowledge and expertise in what students need to do in order to improve in the areas that they will be assessed on.
Nils studied at Stirling University where he achieved a First Class degree in English Literature. Following this, he studied for his PGCE at Cambridge University.
Nils is a keen swimmer (and has a coaching qualification for triathlon), an avid reader (obviously), and a music and comedy fan.
