Tutor profile - Tanya

Tanya has a wealth of experience teaching all subjects to primary-aged children, and uses her warm and encouraging manner to inspire even the most reluctant students.

Following graduation from Birmingham University with a 2:1 in History, she worked at the BBC for ten years, ultimately as a director of documentary programmes for BBC1 and BBC2. She then took time out to look after her young children before re-training as a teacher, being awarded a PGCE in Primary Education from the prestigious Institute of Education (University College London) in 2016. Since then, she has worked in two London primary schools as a class teacher, mainly preparing children for their SATs in Year 6, as well as taking on various leadership responsibilities, such as Head of Upper Key Stage 2 and Head of History, Geography, RE and Music. From September 2023, she will be Reading Lead. This year, she was awarded a National Professional Qualification in Teaching and Learning and has helped to lead curriculum development within the school.

Tanya can bring any subject alive and is particularly encouraging with children who lack confidence in maths, reading or writing. She combines high expectations with a persuasive and friendly manner to get rapid results. Her extensive experience with 10 - 11 year-olds means that she is able to identify areas of need quickly, consolidate skills and support all children to enjoy learning and believe in themselves to reach impressive academic standards. She uses continuous assessment for learning and works hard to tailor all her lessons to the individual, ensuring they are fun and stimulating, as well as rigorous and productive.
