We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

There are no registration fees. This means that you can meet a tutor without having to pay anything. You will only be invoiced if you engage one of our tutors to deliver tuition after having discussed your requirements with them.
Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Katharyn's biography
Katharyn began her studies at the University of Tübingen, after completion of a gap year in Germany. She studied Germanistik and Linguistik for two years, before returning to the UK to complete a BA Hons in German at Stirling University. After three years as a bi-lingual project coordinator at a major British translation company, she undertook a PGCE in Modern Languages at the University of Bristol. She began teaching German and French at a comprehensive school in Berkshire before moving to gain four years IB experience delivering German A and B, at a small international boarding school in Cornwall.
After migrating to Australia in 2008, she upskilled with a CELTA at Phoenix Academy in Perth, where she also taught adult EAL learners. Furthermore, she taught middle and secondary school German at two prestigious independent schools. Upon returning to the UK in 2018, Katharyn taught German and EAL (Academic IELTS) for four years in Aberdeen before joining Gordonstoun for a year as their EAL specialist. In this role she prepared a wide range of candidates for the B2 First for Schools and IELTS exams, supported new and emergent learners with their everyday EAL needs including subject-specific GCSE consolidation and vocabulary input.
Most recently Katharyn was teaching the full range of secondary German in Slovakia (CAIE iGCSE) and is now a freelance German teacher with Lingoda, the online language school and an experienced online tutor for MLAT, ISEB 13+ German, GCSE and A Level German. She is very passionate about all aspects of language and remains to this day an avid learner herself, often tuning into German TV for entertainment and documentaries. Katharyn adores travelling both at home and abroad, as this feeds her curiosity and her zest for life and learning.
IB Experience
From September 2004 to July 2008 Katharyn was Head of German at Bolitho School, Cornwall. She taught German A (SL and HL) to native German speakers with an excellent success rate. In addition, she delivered individually tailored A2 and Language B courses, to meet diverse student needs.
