We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

There are no registration fees. This means that you can meet a tutor without having to pay anything. You will only be invoiced if you engage one of our tutors to deliver tuition after having discussed your requirements with them.
Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Jane's biography
Jane considers herself to be a patient, positive and motivating tutor who can personalise learning and develop strategies to overcome any obstacles and develop a lifelong love of English and Literature. In her tailored approach, her teaching methods are focused on student-centred activities and active learning to teach the necessary skills and frameworks for her students to become independent learners.
With over 30 years teaching experience, Jane has led the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge IGCSE at leading Independent schools; her classes achieved outstanding valued added progression and examination success at IB, A Level and GCSE. Jane has also been a Head of Department where she was solely responsible for developing schemes of work and raising literacy standards.
Jane is an examiner for the IB (English Literature A (Higher and Standard levels) and English Language/Literature A Standard Level) and Edexcel: this enables her to integrate her insights into marking together with the feedback from the examination boards, directly into her tutoring.
Additionally, Jane has experience of writing and marking Year 6 Common Entrance and Scholarship exams and is also happy to tutor younger children to prepare them for these examinations and to improve their reading, comprehensions skills and understanding of grammar. She has experience of teaching English as a Foreign language and spent a year in Sweden tutoring on-line.
Whether you need a boost in confidence, an understanding of how to progress and reach the highest grades, support with an Extended Essay or EPQ, insight and appreciation of your set texts, preparation for interview or Entrance examinations, Jane is happy to support you on your journey.
IB Experience
Jane has been an examiner for the IB since 2009 and has taught SL and HL English Language/Literature and Literature at one of the leading IB schools: The Abbey which is a pro-active and forward-looking school. She was one of the pioneering teachers to teach the IB diploma at the school; they went on to achieve excellent results (averaging 39 points) every year. The IB has allowed Jane to become a more creative teacher, one who can provide opportunities to extend the personal autonomy and independence of the students. She has been an examiner for the IB for several years which has been extremely beneficial in helping her to prepare students for their final examinations. She has also supervised extended essays and it was extremely rewarding to see the students develop their critical thinking skills and confidence from the experience.
