Jen's biography

Jen is an experienced English teacher and tutor, and has prepared students for 11+ and 13+ including scholarship preparation for some of the UK's top boarding schools. She also has a wealth of experience preparing students for their GCSE/iGCSE English language and English literature, as well as A level English literature. Jen studied Archaeology at Newcastle University then stayed on to do a Masters in English literature. She studied for her PGCE in Secondary English at the University of Leeds gaining Qualified Teacher Status. More recently, Jen achieved her Doctorate in Education from the University of Sheffield focusing on the English curriculum. She has examined for Cambridge International Examinations and AQA.

Jen is an enthusiastic and dedicated English teacher who loves to support her students on their learning journey. She creates a nurturing environment in which her students feel comfortable to say when they need additional help, and she is passionate about providing detailed and immediate feedback which allows her students to make rapid, sustainable progress. Throughout her career as a teacher and tutor, Jen has received countless comments from colleagues, parents and observers about the positive relationships she creates with her students which allows them to thrive in English.

Jen is an avid reader who always has an extensive 'to be read' pile. Some may argue that she has a bit of a book-buying problem but she maintains that she is merely a collector of literature. She loves to travel and is always planning the next adventure for her and her family.

In the last two years, Jen has helped a student gain entry into Eton College, two students gain entry to Brighton College, a student into Harrow, as well as many other students to top UK boarding schools. Over the last 4 years, she has tutored GCSE students and with her help 4 of these achieved a grade 8 or 9 (having been targeted grade 6s or 7s).
