Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Sarah's biography
Sarah has been a teacher in a variety of schools in her 15 year career in Education. At university, she achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Education while teacher training experience across KS1 and KS2. She started her career in a state school in Penge, working with all year groups in KS2 and working towards SATs in Year 6. Next, she moved to an international school in Amman, Jordan where she continued working with different year groups in KS2. The learning was focused around enquiry based curriculum with an IB focus, offering her a wealth of experience and depth of understanding across many subjects.
Upon returning to the UK in 2017, she began teaching in another state school in London in Year 5 and 6, working with a diverse range of students with a variety of needs. Using a variety of strategies and techniques to help pupils who have dyscalculia, dyslexia, ASD or ADHD, so they can find their strengths and manage challenges. After this school, she was appointed Head of Reasoning in a top London Prep school in Notting Hill Gate, where she worked predominantly in Year 5 and 6. She has a wide knowledge of different schools, so she is able to cater to many tutoring needs and meet the objectives for pupils in KS2 and starting KS3. Her main approach to one to one tutoring is to have a clear meeting and understanding of what parents and students want to achieve such as; what are the main struggles and strengths. Setting objectives and goals and measuring those as she continues to work with her stidents while offering regular updates and communication. She loves to break barriers in learning to ensure success. She uses a variety of teaching methods to ensure understanding, breaking down problems, assessing how to pick and use the right skills.
She is highly organised and has excellent time management. She has excellent knowledge of the requirements of SATs and the 11+ in Maths, English, Science and Reasoning. She uses a range of resources and she is happy to help parents/ carers find the right resources for extra study. In her current school she is Head of Reasoning and a maths specialist,
