Alex's biography

Alex is a passionate and dedicated English educator with extensive experience in both one-to-one tutoring and classroom teaching. He specialises in GCSE English, having helped students of all abilities achieve significant progress. Consistently demonstrating his ability to foster academic improvement and confidence, Alex has guided under-achieving students get 5 and 6s and helped high achieving students reach grades 8 and 9.

As an AQA English examiner, Alex possesses a deep understanding of both the language and literature components across all major exam boards, allowing him to offer tailored and effective guidance for his students.

Alex uses clear examples, scaffolding, and modelling to guide students towards higher-grade bands. His teaching philosophy is grounded in patience, positivity, and encouragement, while maintaining firm boundaries and providing appropriate challenges. With extensive experience working with students with SEND, he creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all.

Alex trained with Teach First, earning his Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in Secondary English. Prior to becoming a classroom teacher, he worked for two years as a Tutor and Mentor at a leading state school in Hackney, where he supported students in their academic and personal growth.

In addition to his expertise in English, Alex is a capable of teaching a wide range of subjects including 11+ and 13+, History, Spanish, Maths up to GCSE level. His approach is adaptable, catering to the unique needs of each student across these subjects.

Beyond his work as a teacher and tutor, Alex is also a playwright and screenwriter. His plays have been produced at venues across London, and he incorporates his experience in drama into his English teaching, helping to make the subject both engaging and enjoyable.

In his free time, Alex enjoys reading fiction, hiking, playing football and tennis, swimming, and traveling to new destinations around the world.
