Alex's biography

Alex is a passionate and dedicated English teacher and tutor and provides personalised and engaging lessons tailored to meet every student's individual needs and personality. He has extensive experience working in classrooms and one to one.

Alex is available to teach 11+ and 13+ exams, English KS3 and KS4 and English A-Level. He is an AQA English exam marker and has specialised knowledge of the English GCSE Language paper. Over the years, Alex has also taught Spanish, History and Maths up to GCSE level.

Alex trained with Teach First, achieving his Qualified Teacher Status and PDGE in Secondary English from 2023-4. Prior to working as a classroom teacher, he worked for two years as a Learning Support Teacher in an Alternative Provision Centre and Mentor helping students with their academic and personal progress.

His approach values patience, positivity and encouragement and he uses a pedagogy that priorities scaffolded learning and modelling leading toward independent practice. He believes in the importance of firm boundaries and challenge in order to get the best of out students and has extensive experience teaching students with SEND needs.

Alex is also a playwright and screenwriter. His plays have been produced at theatres in London and he is developing several screenplays with production companies. He has taught playwriting in schools and loves to use his knowledge of theatre and drama to help inform his English teaching and bring joy to the subject.

Before working in education, Alex worked in film and television for seven years. He graduated from UCL with a First in History and was named on the prestigious Dean's List for academic excellence. He also has an MA in Screenwriting from the London Film School.

In his free time, he loves to read fiction, hike, play football, tennis, swim and travel to new places across the world.
